Scientists at Neumayer Station III in Antarctica have successfully grown vegetables in a high-tech greenhouse (EDEN-ISS) that do not require soil, sunlight, or pesticides, including 3.6 kilograms of salad lettuce, 18 cucumbers, and 70 radishes, under outdoor temperatures below -20 ° C.

It is understood that scientists use a reusable water cycle and nutrition system based on water cultivation methods, while replacing sunlight with LED lighting and carefully monitoring indoor carbon dioxide.
In addition, according to the German Aviation Center, scientists are expected to harvest 4.5 kilograms of fruits and vegetables per week by May.
It is reported that this is not the first attempt. As early as 2015, NASA had successfully planted vegetables on the International Space Station.
